A full Professor of Geology- University of Dar Es Salaam (UDSM), Tanzania since 2001 and Honorary Professor- University of Pretoria, South Africa. Recognised for teaching excellence, dedicated to intellectual honesty. Head of Geology Department of UDSM (1997- 2002), with emphasis on training & research quality assurance.

Executive Director.

The founder and first Executive Director (2007- 2010) of the International Council for Science – Africa, Region, Provided strategic, transparent leadership with a yearly budget of more than US$. 870,000 for de- novel scientific projects, conferences and high-demand policy development ventures for Africa.

Professional Fellow & Consultant

A Member of the International Experts Group of OECD, Vice-President for Commission of the Geological Map of the World, Fellow of eight highly professional societies including the Geological Society of London and Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences. Undertaken over 100 scientific research, consultancy services & Chaired Conferences in mineral industry, environment, sustainable energy, including the     UN-Economic Commission for Africa, AU- Commission and UN-International Year of Planet Earth. 

Scientific Researcher, Scholarly Writer and Editor

Undertaken numerous field researches on Mineral Exploration, Geological Mapping and Laboratory tests in African, Europe & USA. The Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of African Earth Sciences and Associate Editor of Precambrian Research . Author or co-author of over 150 Scientific articles and Technical papers.

Recipient of numerous scholarly and professional awards, grants and fellowships including:

2007, Honors Award, Geological Society of South Africa on Meritorious contribution to the Earth Science Profession, 2006, Tanzanian National Award (TAST Award) for Outstanding Research in Science & Technology, from the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH), 2004, first recipient of Robert Shackleton Award for Outstanding Research in the Precambrian Geology of Africa.

BURIANI ASK. MSTAAFU SALMON SARIGE BUTENGÉ

Uwepo wa utulivu mahala hapa ni heshima, tafakuri na kujihoji wakati tunapata rejea ya safari ya maisha ya Mtenda-kazi wa Bwana, Ask. Salmon Sarige Butengé  japo kwa dakika moja.

Ewe kifo, unaweza kuitenga miili yetu lakini kamwe huwezi kuzitenga roho zetu, huwezi kuifuta miguso wala kumbukumbu za maisha ya Wapendwa wetu.

U wapi mauti  na machungu yako?  Hatukuongelei tena kwa kuwa umaarufu wako ulishafunikwa  na  Ufufuo  na Tumaini alilotuachia Bwana wetu Yesu Kristo.

Kama hamasa toka kwa Bibi Mahalia Jackson ilivyomgusa Mch. Martin Luther King, Jnr, na hatimaye kuteremsha mistari ya karne “Nina njozi” (I have a dream), ndivyo tulivyoweza kushuhudia  hamasa  ya kishujaa, isiyomungúnya maneno ya mama  yetu,  Bibi Ask.  Lois Sarige Butengé  akinena,

"Yaika! wa Butengé, yaika!",  katika kadamnasi hususan wakati wa Makambi pindi  Mchungaji  / Askofu Butengé  alipokuwa akitema cheche za injili mathalani  juu ya  somo la Mtenda-kazi wa Bwana au Maji yaliyo hai n.k, huko Mugumu, Bumangi, Majita, Mugango, Musoma, Nyabange, Shirati, Mwanza, Dar es salaam na kwingineko.

Ee Mola, kama huko Mbinguni pangehitajika Mkutano wa Kiroho, tusingesita kutamka kuwa Mjoli wako Salmon Sarige uliyemtwaa ni mmojawapo wa Rasilimali-Binadamu mwenye taranta husika.

Bwana umetwaa, Jina lako linaendelea kubarikiwa na bila shaka mwangwi wa sauti ya mama Lois, sasa imepokelewa na malaika wakiimba,
